This page describes the Power Amplifier (PA) for the rev0VTx video transmitter.

Summary

Schematic for the rev0VTx PA.
Board for the rev0VTx PA.

The PA is based around the MMG3006 2W 0.4-2.4GHz Amplifier IC, and runs from a single 5V supply. The design was begun using the RF amplifier design program RF Assistant, created by Dr. Frensley of UTD. A PI and L matching network were created for the input and output, respectively, using the Match Maker program.

Initial input/output match determined in RF Assistant.

The circuit was then simulated using Qucs. The circuit and s2p file for simulation can be found here: http://www.rev0proto.com/files/rev0VTx_PA_Sim.zip Modifications were made in RF Assistant and simulated in Qucs to improve the match and gain of the amplifier. The final design has a gain of 17.9-18.6dB with an input/output match of >11.5dB (VSWR < 2) over the operating range of 1240-1300 MHz. A potentiometer or fixed resistor on the board can be used to adjust the bias current (850mA nominal). The gerbers, Eagle schematic and board file can be found here: http://www.rev0proto.com/files/rev0VTx_PA.zip
